Higher Ground Needs Different Fixes

Most Dublin 16 estates went in between the 1970s and the 1990s. Knocklyon’s parish was founded in 1974 and its church in 1980, which puts the pipework in those houses at roughly fifty years old.

That is where Cortech comes in. Over 5 years across Dublin, RGI registered and fully insured, with the price agreed before anyone touches a valve.

Dublin 16 Home Types

Spot the Weak Point First

Four home types cover most of Dublin 16. Which one you have decides the pressure, the heating layout and what is most likely to fail first.

Attic tanks are the common thread. Most of these houses still store water upstairs, which is fine until a ball valve fails or a cold snap reaches the attic.

Fifty-Year-Old Pipework

Original runs in estates built through the 1970s.

Weak Flow Upstairs

Top-of-estate houses that never get full pressure.

Cottages Among the Estates

Older homes on Knocklyon Road with their own layout.

Massive thank you to Ben from Cortech who came for an emergency call out to find my wedding ring. Didn’t need any plumbing work thankfully as he found it in about 10 seconds by figuring out what had happened - a very logical approach. Left me feeling silly, but very grateful. Thanks so much!

I had a shower unit locked open with water flowing for a couple of hours and needed a call out. Found Cortech on Google and rang them about 9.30 am on a Friday morning. The service man, a really helpful guy called Ben was here in 40 mins and sorted the problem immediately. He also helped me find a company who had a replacement unit and parts. From my initial call, to job completed ( including help with finding replacement unit ) took 45 mins. The speed and efficiency of the service, plus the really pleasant manner in which I was dealt with was a breath of fresh air. I would highly recommend Cortech Plumbing.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Rathfarnham in Dublin 16 or Dublin 14?

Both, depending on which part. Rathfarnham straddles the two postcodes, so the one on your address comes down to where in the area you live. It makes no difference to us either way. Cortech covers Rathfarnham, Knocklyon, Ballinteer, Ballyboden and Edmondstown. Call (01) 963 6090.
Keeping some heat on is the simplest protection. Leave the heating at a low setting rather than off during a cold spell, lag the pipes and tanks in the attic and in any unheated space, and find your stopcock before you need it. Call (01) 963 6090 if anything looks exposed.
Turn the water off at the stopcock first, then open the nearest tap so there is somewhere for the water to go as it thaws. Warm the pipe gently with towels or a hairdryer on a low setting, never a flame. If it has already split, call (01) 963 6090 and we will get to you.
Depends how long and how cold. For a short trip, leaving the heating on a low setting is usually enough. For a long absence in winter, draining down removes the risk completely, though the system then needs refilling and bleeding properly. Call (01) 963 6090 and we will advise on your setup.
Overflowing attic tanks nearly always come down to the ball valve. Once the washer or the float fails, the valve stops shutting off and the overflow pipe does its job by dumping water outside. Replacing the valve is a small job when it is caught early. Call (01) 963 6090.
Cold at the bottom of a radiator while the top stays hot usually means sludge has settled in the system. Power flushing clears it and restores circulation, and it is worth doing before a new boiler goes onto an older system. Call (01) 963 6090.
